Bo Feng earned her doctorate in Communication from Purdue University in 2006. Dr. Feng also holds an M.A. in Linguistics and a B.A. in English from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Feng's primary research interests lie in the areas of social influence, persuasion, and cross-cultural communication. The research Dr. Feng has engaged in thus far has focused on supportive communication; specifically, it has aimed to: (a) investigate the processes through which people conceptualize, seek, provide, and respond to various forms of support, how these processes are similar and different for people of different genders and cultures, and the effects these processes have on individuals' well-being; (b) examine the features of more and less effective supportive behaviors (e.g., advice, emotional support); and (c) develop more viable theoretical frameworks for understanding, practicing, and researching supportive communication. In addition to researching supportive communication in traditional face-to-face contexts, Dr. Feng is also interested in explicating supportive communication processes in computer-mediated contexts, such as advice giving and receiving in cyberspace.
