Title: Researching Roommates: Past research and future directions

Abstract: I teach at a residential liberal arts college where almost all of our students share a room at some point during their undergraduate career.  Academics and practitioners alike have been trying to understand and inform best practices in Residential Life since dual occupancy living was initiated.

Like much of the work in this area, my research interests are focused on discovering ways to improve roommate relationships.  I will share some of my empirical work on roommate similarity and how this relates to satisfaction and an exploratory study about negotiating privacy.  I will end the talk by discussing my future projects and welcome questions or suggestions.
