Professor Hether Receives Teaching Award

Dr. Heather Hether receives 2026 Award for Distinguished Teaching from College of Letters and Science

Associate Professor of Teaching Heather J.  Hether has been selected to receive the 2026 College of Letters and Science Award for Distinguished Teaching. This award recognizes outstanding teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, inside and outside the classroom. The selection committee reported being deeply impressed by Professor Hether’s excellent teaching and her dedication to educating students in the College. This year, Dr. Hether was the sole award recipient from Social Sciences within the College, making this recognition particularly noteworthy.
 
Known for her engaging and student-centered teaching, Dr. Hether designs courses that connect communication theory with practical application. Students consistently describe her classes as supportive, intellectually challenging, and relevant to their personal and professional lives. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Hether contributes to teaching and learning through her pedagogical research, curriculum development, and service to the university and the discipline.
