Bio

Wonjeong Jo is a PhD student in the Department of Communication at the University of California, Davis (Advisor: Dr. Magdalena Wojcieszak). Her research focuses on mitigating online harm and negativity. She is especially interested in:

  • Developing methods and interventions to detect harmful content and to reduce its visibility
  • Examining how social media algorithms systematically recommend harmful or politically biased content to users
  • Understanding how users engage with harmful content online, and how this is linked to algorithmic recommendations
  • Exploring the conditions under which democratic and civil conversations can be achieved, especially in political comment sections. 

Methodologically, she uses computational approaches, such as network analysis, NLP, and LLMs, to analyze digital trace data.
