Visit from Beijing Normal University Scholars

On December 11, 2018, the Department of Communication hosted a delegation from the School of Journalism and Communication at Beijing Normal University. The visiting scholars, led by Dr. Yu, Executive Dean of BNU’s School of Journalism & Communication, discussed opportunities for international collaboration and cooperation with faculty from UC Davis. A number of similarities between the two programs were identified, including graduate programs of similar sizes and emphasis.

Six PhD students off to new adventures

The 2018 cohort of PhD students is starting new positions at top universities and in Silicon Valley

Six of the 32 graduate students of our program have accepted intriguing placements, reaching from universities in Singapore, Austria, U.S., and China, to Facebook in neighboring Silicon Valley.

CITRIS 'Tech for Social Good' Undergraduate Project Funding

Congratulations to Ke "Maddie" Huang, Kimmiko James, Jeffrey Warner, Alejandra Amparo, Sagar Gupta, and Jorge Peña for receiving funding for their Tech for Social Good proposal. Using CITRIS and the Banatao Institute Tech for Social Good Program funding, the team will develop "Abrázame," a mobile app for users to securely share domestic abuse stories and receive social support.

Joe Walther's 2018 G. P. Mohrmann Memorial Lecture

The Department of Communication is honored to host Dr. Joe Walther's Mohrmann Memorial Lecture entitled 'Unconscious influence: How social media interactions lead to accidental inferences about the self and others.' Dr. Walther's talk is on Friday, April 20 2018 11am-12:30pm at the International Center, Room 1310, multipurpose room.

MoU with leading South Korean University

The UCD Department of Communication has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the College of Communication, Yonsei University.

This is the first official international partnership in history of the Department of Communication at UC Davis. Under this partnership, the Department will collaborate with Yonsei University in student exchange, faculty exchange, research collaborations and joint seminars.

Jeanette Ruiz featured in UC Davis First Generation Faculty Project

The daughter of farmworkers, Ruiz became the first in her family to go college.

Now Ruiz, who earned her bachelor's and doctoral degrees at UC Davis, is among faculty who are telling their stories as part of a UC program to connect first-generation students with professors who have walked in their shoes.
